In an era where the consequences of climate change are more visible and urgent than ever, one film dares to take us on a gripping journey through the stark realities and hopeful possibilities of our Lesotho’s future.
GEM Institute in collaboration with World Food Programme (WFP) and the Government of Lesotho hosted a screening event for “Echoes of Change” at the Tourist Information and Craft Centre on the 16th January 2025.
The screening got hosted under the Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable and Food-Insecure Populations (IACOV) project in Lesotho to enhance the National Climate Change Communication Strategy through the use of creative platforms. The film presents a compelling narrative of the challenges and opportunities that communities in Lesotho face as they adapt to climate change realities.
The film aims to illuminate the devastating effects of climate change on communities while inspiring people to take meaningful action that can help create a more sustainable and habitable world for current and future generations. The Project Coordinator, Mr Nkopo Matsepe stated that Echoes of Change is the first-ever climate change film to be produced in Lesotho. He further stated that the film products will be distributed to the districts and communities.
Ms. Mpho Letima, the manager of The GEM institute, reported at their journey of developing message for climate change awareness initiative, they expanded to collaborate their circle to working with twelve schools in the districts, granting them a chance to create films about climate change films, with six of these productions successfully reaching the screen as a way to assess their comprehension of climate messaging.
